Check with your Auto Insurance Company about a discount
Check with your auto insurance company to see if you qualify for a discount if you complete the AARP Driver’s Safety Program (there are an online and classroom programs). You do not have to be a member of AARP. With Allstate (my auto insurance company) , if you are under 55 you can receive a 5% discount; if over 55 a 10% discount AND for 3 years. It was well worth the $19.95 for the course.

When is it a good time to remove collision from the insurance on a car?
There is a general rule of thumb when it may make sense to remove collision from a policy:
a. When a vehicle is 10 or more years old
b. When it has 100,000 miles or more
c. When the value of the vehicle diminishes to $2,500 or less
Of course if there is a lien on a vehicle you have to have full coverage to satisfy the lienholder. But in every car’s life there is a point when it makes sense to carry only liability. Even without collision, the car is still protected if you’re hit by an uninsured driver, or if it is the accident is the others person’s fault, their property damage liability will pay to repair or replace your car.
With some companies collision on a car over ten years is more expensive because parts are harder to find. Its always good to have an agent who can help you make prudent decisions on your policy!
